Madhuri Kamaraj University, is on its relentless journey for the past 53 years surmounting hurdles of indigenous and exotic nature on its way and has passed through the tests of accreditation towards reaching the status of excellence.

The university came into begin through a bill passed in the Legislative Assembly of the state of the year 1965. Thus, it is a statutory university owned and funded by the Government of Tamilnadu and the University Grants Commission. The university is a member of association of Indian Universities and one of the nine universities in India with a status of University with Potential for excellence.

Currently it holds a total of 77 renowned departments and 20 schools. In addition to the departments and schools, the university has 21 academic centres and 21 quasi academic supportive units. It has 24 autonomous colleges, 14 aided colleges, 33 self financing colleges, 18 approved institutions, 4 evening colleges, 6 constituent colleges and one university college catering to the higher education needs of large number of students from rural and urban areas.

The Madurai Kamaraj University offers 41 post graduate, 35 M.Phil, and 17 Diploma/PG Diploma/ Certificate courses in various departments. Presently, the affiliated colleges offer 66 UG and 45 PG courses.

The university has a modernized central library with 3 Lakhs books, 15,000 e-journals, 3,000 e-books, 55,000 reference and text books. The one GBPS internet connection, INFONET centre with 50 nodes and smart class rooms have enriched the ICT enables teaching and learning.

Transportation: Madurai Kamaraj University has more than 10 buses which are made available to the students and the faculty members for commuting from various points in the city and also from the suburbs like AnnaNagar, Therkuvasal, Periyar, Kalavasal, Checkanurani, Keelavasal, and Theppakulam to the campus and back.

Auditorium: To facilitate international, national and important university events such as conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings, placement programs and cultural events, the university has two big auditoriums preview theatre. All of them are well-furnished, air-conditioned, and equipped with modern projection and audio systems with access to the internet and the latest teaching aids like LCD projectors, slide projectors, and overhead projectors.

Bank: It also has a Bank facility on the university campus.

Canteen: The university canteens are open to all students and faculties. The college management has run the spacious canteen facility in the University campus. Their college serves delicious food at reasonable prices.

Central Instrumentation Centre: The Central Instrumentation Centre was established with funding from the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) scheme. The main vision of the Central Instrumentation Centre is to manage core central equipment facilities purchased under various programs such as UGC-UPE and DST-PURSE in a single place to nucleate multidisciplinary research activities.

Married Research Scholar Quarters: Residential Quarters are available for the Married scholars and Post Doctoral Fellow. Madurai Kamaraj University provides hostels and guesthouses to married research scholars for three years for their research purposes and for the extension of their research projects.

Hostels: Bharathi, Kavimanl, Bharathidasan.Thiruvalluvar and V.O.C Hostels are part and parcel of the university's hostel system, which provides residence for university students. The Bharathi hostel has 108 rooms, and the Kavimani hostel has 60 rooms respectively.

Central Facility: It has a Central Instrumentation Centre, Greenhouse, Recording and Mixing Theatre, shooting floor, video editing equipment, multimedia lab, professional studio, glass blowing lab, workshop, auto functioning library, library books auto issue machine, online public access catalogue, and library books auto return machine.
