St. Thomas College was established as an educational school in 1889 by Rt. Rev. Adolphus Edwin Medlycott, Vicar Apostolic of Thrissur. The University of Madras granted formal affiliation to the institution in April 1919, transforming it into a Second Grade College, with Fr. John Palocaren serving as the first Principal. In March 1925, the College achieved the designation of First Grade College. With the establishment of universities in Kerala, the College became affiliated with the University of Kerala in 1957 and the University of Calicut in 1968.
The institute provides courses in Science, Humanities & Social Sciences, Accounting & Commerce, and Business & Management Studies, the majority of which are full-time. It provides a variety of undergraduate and graduate level courses to students within its sophisticated infrastructure and facilities.
