NIT Durgapur admissions to various UG, PG and doctorate level programs are based on national level exams accepted by the institute. With primary focus on engineering, the two major programs of the institute are BTech and MTech. Admission to the B.Tech program is based on JEE Main rank, whereas, MTech admissions require GATE scores followed by CCMT Counseling. Candidates applying for these courses must have a rank between 4400-40000 in the JEE Main exam for the BTech program. For the MTech program, the desirable GATE rank is between 400-800.

- The MAT 2024 registration for the December session is open for the CBT Phase 1 exam with a last date of Nov 30, 2024. In case of PBT and CBT Phase 2 exams, registration will be closed on Dec 7 and Dec 15, 2024 respectively. Additionally, MAT 2024 CBT Phase 1, PBT, and CBT Phase 2 exams will take place on Dec 7, Dec 14, and Dec 22, 2024 respectively.
- CMAT 2025 application for admission into the MBA, PGDM, and MMS courses is now available; last date to submit application forms is Dec 13, 2024. CMAT 2025 will take place on Jan 25, 2025.

The institute provides a 4 years (8 Semester) B.Tech course in nine specializations. Basic eligibility, specializations, and selection criteria for B.Tech programme are as follows.
- Those aspiring to join BTech at NIT should pass 10 + 2 from any renowned board of study in PCM only.
- A candidate must have scored at least 60% of marks in aggregate and must be eligible to give JEE Main exam.

After a candidate qualifies the JEE-Main, they will have to undergo counseling before final selection. The procedure for registering for counselling is mentioned below:
- Click on the registration page at the official JoSAA website.
- Use the application number from the JEE Main application.
- Make sure that the candidate profile is correct
- Click on 'Submit changes'.

- The candidates who seek admission in the MBA program must possess a graduation degree in any discipline.
- It has to be at least 60% marks scored in graduation and he/ she is eligible to give the CAT examination.
- Selection to the MBA program in NIT is strictly based on merit scored by the candidate in CAT.
- The seat allotment takes place after the counselling process and group discussion rounds are fully completed.

Eligible applicants for MBA admissions need to appear for the CAT to gain admission. To apply follow these steps

The NIT Durgapur provides a two-year M.Sc in six specializations, such as Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Mathematics, and Biotechnology. For entry into the program, candidates are required to take the IIT JAM entrance examination.
- At least a bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% aggregate marks from a recognized university or institute.
- A valid score in the IIT JAM entrance examination.

NIT Durgapur provides a PhD program under 10 distinct departments to the Full-Time/Part-Time/Sponsored candidates. The institute accepts national entrance tests like CSIR/ UGC/ GATE/ JAM/ GPAT/ DBT-JRF/ JEST/ ICMR/ ICAR/ NBHM, etc.
