In 1998, the State of Andhra Pradesh passed a statute creating the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR). The University has hosted important discussions on justice and the law since its founding. These discussions have recognized that issues of justice come up in all areas of law, including the legal system, business, administration, and education. The University has backed campaigns for disability empowerment, land rights, and against hate speech and moral policing by using the law as a tool for social change. NALSAR is dedicated to fostering a moral legal culture that upholds and advances the rule of law. The University feels that the goal of creating a society governed by the rule of law is a continual endeavor that can be sustained if it is approached with optimism and good humor. The social justice agenda is not something to be laughed at. NALSAR is regarded as one of the best legal schools in the nation, with faculty members from both domestic and foreign universities and students accepted from all across the nation. We take pride in our position, but we don't think it defines who we are. The administration and students enjoy making fun of themselves and one another. There is lots of black and friendly humor at NALSAR.
