When the JMC Tiruchirappalli was selected by the Danforth Foundation of USA to receive study fellowships in the United States, it was given the unique distinction of being included with the thirty top colleges in India in 1957. The college received recognition as a post-graduate college in 1963 for the purposes of grants under sections 2(F) and 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act 1956, the college was recognized in 1972 by UGC New Delhi. The college was designated as one of the ten Lead colleges in the university region by the UGC in 1977 following the University of Madras' recommendation.
The College received Five Star NAAC accreditation in 2002 and also in 2004-2005 by Bharathidasan University and UGC, New Delhi granted it Autonomous Status. The College received its A-Grade (2nd Cycle) with CGPA of 3.6 out of 4.0 accreditation from the NAAC in January 2009. Under the Colleges with Potential for Excellence scheme, the University Grants Commission granted our college the distinguished honor of CPE status Phase-I and Phase-II in 2011 and 2016, respectively. During the third round of certification in 2015, we managed to hold onto the A Grade granted by NAAC with CGPA of 3.69 out of 4.0 in 2023, the college received an A++ grade and was accredited by the NAAC in the fourth cycle.
