FAQs
Does the Library allow me to bring my own books, laptops, and other reading materials?
In order to access the library, patrons are permitted to bring their own books, laptops, and other reading materials. However, when they enter the library, they must present those objects for a record at the checkpoint.
How is the Library accessible to outsiders?
The Library is open to students, university and college faculty, and those connected to academic institutions or businesses. To request authorization for a temporary (limited-day), yearly, or lifelong membership, they are asked to get in touch with the Library's Circulation Unit.
Who is permitted access to the ISI Library?
The Institute's faculty, staff, researchers, and students are all permitted to access the Library. The Library is also open to interested academicians, government representatives, council members, visiting faculty, student alumni, retired personnel, and academic collaborators. However, users must enroll as library members after completing the necessary steps in order to access the borrowing features.
Does a late return, damage, misuse, or loss of library materials result in a penalty or fine?
Yes, a fine of one rupee per day will be assessed for any item borrowed from the library after the lending period has ended. In accordance with the Library's rules and regulations, additional sanctions could be applied. What should I do now that my library card has been lost?
Following the loss, kindly notify the librarian and the library circulation counter. After that, you can follow the instructions for creating a replacement card to get in touch with the Membership Desk for a new one.
How can I suggest a library subscription for books, journals, and reports?
Requests for the subscription of resources (in print or electronic media) can be sent to the Chief Librarian by an approved member. You can also submit a request by email. Before recommending the purchase of reputable information sources (e-journals, databases, datasets, and special materials), ISI researchers can confer with their mentors, advisors, and heads of department. They can then make their recommendations to the Chief Librarian. However, it should be mentioned that the Library has the capacity to subscribe to the materials based on the Fund's availability.
What should a student do if they misplace a book they checked out from the library?
For statutory control over the lost document, they must report it to the library's circulation desk. To proceed with the book's processing, you must replace it with the same or the most recent edition and pay a fee. But you might be told to act on a case-by-case basis (if relevant).
Is it possible to renew a book without going to the library?
Yes, you can renew the book you borrowed by sending an email to renew@isical.ac.in with the book's name (Accession No) and your name (Member ID) so that the appropriate steps can be taken. Each borrowed item may be renewed up to two times in a row (if it isn't already reserved by someone else).
